Alpine geometry: A series of A-frame cabins designed with steep sloping roofs to shed snow, sitting harmoniously within the frozen landscape.

Stone Aged Cafe & Inn

A small café and lodging project in Tosh, designed and built in an extremely remote mountain setting with limited access, harsh winters, and minimal construction infrastructure.

A Remote Mountain Lodge Built for Climate and Access

The project is located deep in the mountains of Tosh, where vehicular access ends nearly four kilometres below the site. All construction materials were transported to the last motorable point and then carried to site using local mules. These logistical constraints directly shaped the construction strategy, material selection, and sequencing, making planning and project management central to the design process.

The main café building is constructed using locally available stone masonry and timber, with a traditional pitched roof suited to heavy snowfall and cold conditions. The guest cottages are designed as lightweight A-frame structures, allowing faster assembly and efficient snow-shedding while minimizing structural complexity. Existing boulders on site were retained and integrated into the planning, with buildings arranged around them rather than altering the terrain. Together, these decisions result in a project that responds practically to climate, access, and local construction realities while remaining rooted in its mountain context.
