The design strategy for the Center of Excellence was centered on "adaptability and narration," aiming to create a workspace that functions as both a modern design studio and a storytelling vessel for Khadi. Planned as a flexible studio environment that supports research, making, discussion, and display, the layout moves away from fixed institutional planning and instead relies on an open floor plate that can be reconfigured as requirements change. Custom movable wooden screens and mobile pin-up boards allow the space to shift easily between collaborative work zones, individual workstations, and presentation setups.

Lighting and spatial clarity were key considerations. A coffered ceiling and skylight system brings in controlled natural light, while track lighting ensures consistent and accurate illumination for textile work. Materials and detailing are kept robust and neutral, allowing the focus to remain on process, material exploration, and everyday use. The result is a workspace that supports both structured academic activity and evolving modes of design practice.
