Grassroots Global - Pre-School
A retrofitted pre-school in Patna, transforming a former media studio into a bright, open, and engaging preschool environment for early learners.
Reclaiming Light for Learning
The project involved reworking an existing building that was originally designed as a media studio, characterized by enclosed rooms, dark corridors, and inward-looking spaces. The primary design intervention was to unblock and open up the interior, allowing natural light, visibility, and movement to flow through the building. Walls were selectively removed or reshaped to create brighter classrooms, visual connections between spaces, and a more open, welcoming environment suited to young children.
The interiors were designed to support learning through movement and interaction. Corridors were widened and activated, staircases were redesigned to function as informal gathering and storytelling spaces, and niches were introduced for reading and quiet play. Color, texture, and soft finishes were used deliberately to create a safe, stimulating environment without visual overload. The result is a preschool that feels lively, intuitive, and age-appropriate — where the architecture supports curiosity, comfort, and everyday use rather than imposing rigid spatial boundaries.
