Garhmukteshwar is a pilgrimage town in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh with multiple holy ghats at short distances from the town center.
The need for the study arises from the need for tourism infrastructure in the area, which sees an inflow of 5-10 thousand pilgrims daily. The study was aimed at understanding; movement patterns and densities at the ghat and adjoining commercial belt; Religious and Heritage value of structures; Pilgrimage Routes andTransport Nodes; Existing Infrastructure(Social, Transport and Tourist); and Socio-economic composition of the local population.
